A 56-year-old man had an asymmetric, maculopapular, sharply demarcated, pruritic, excoriated dermatitis on his upper thighs. The eruption had been present for 2 to 3 weeks.

A 56-year-old man had an asymmetric, maculopapular, sharply demarcated, pruritic, excoriated dermatitis on his upper thighs. The eruption had been present for 2 to 3 weeks.

A potassium hydroxide preparation revealed fungal elements. Unlike a Candida infection of the groin, tinea cruris usually is more confined and spares the scrotum. Oral and topical ketoconazole were given; the dermatophytosis completely resolved in 3 weeks.
