Monu Khanna, MD, discusses challenges in managing pain in patients with obesity, effective pharmacological and nonpharmacological therapies, and more.

“Obesity and chronic pain go hand in hand…and that is why bringing awareness to the topic is so important," said Monu Khanna, MD, in an interview with Patient Care Online. "It is important for all of us to understand what the difficulties can be when we are treating patients with obesity who have chronic discomfort.”

Dr Khanna is dually board-certified in internal medicine and obesity medicine and is the current chair of the Obesity Medicine Association’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. She sat down with Patient Care to discuss obesity and chronic pain management, including challenges clinicians face in managing pain in patients with obesity, effective pharmacological and nonpharmacological therapies for pain management, and how clinicians can develop pain management plans for patients with obesity.
