The Alliance for Rational Use of NSAIDs has been launched to inform health care professionals, patients, and the public about using NSAID therapy safely and appropriately and balancing the benefits and risks, the American Chronic Pain Association (ACPA) announced. The alliance encourages patients and prescribers of NSAIDs to do the following:

+ Follow guidance.

+ Take clinical needs and risk factors into account.

+ Gain a full understanding of what NSAIDs are.

+ Engage in ongoing dialogue.

The alliance is a public health coalition of professional organizations, clinicians, and other stakeholders. In addition to the ACPA, inaugural members include the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, HealthyWomen, the National Council on Patient Information and Education, the National Kidney Foundation, and the Western Pain Society.
