This unusual manifestation of lichen planus is marked by inflammation around the follicular epithelium; on closer examination, erythematous follicular papules may be identified, as seen here. Lichen planopilaris usually results in a focal scarring hair loss. A biopsy is helpful in confirming the diagnosis.
