AAFP President-Elect Welcomes the Simplicity of the Seasonal COVID-19 Vaccine

Commentary

The monovalent, singe-shot COVID-19 vaccine simplifies what used to be a complicated conversation with patients and stocking the vaccine fridge, too, says Steven Furr, MD.

"It's just going to be the seasonal vaccine for COVID; you'll get it every year, just like the flu vaccine."

Steven Furr, MD, president-elect of the American Academy of Family Physicians and family physician for more than 3 decades, believes the new, updated COVID-19 monovalent vaccines should simplify everything from patient communication and counseling to stocking the new single-dose vials. He explained his thoughts in a recent interview with Patient Care.®

Steven Furr, MD, president-elect of the American Academy of Family Physicians, is a family physician in Jackson, AL, where he co-founded Family Medical Clinic of Jackson. Furr has cared for patients for more than 35 years, including providing obstetrics care for more than 25 years. He is a certified medical director, as well as a certified medical examiner. He is also an adjunct professor with the Department of Family Medicine at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile, AL.
